Steven Spielberg has always drawn inspiration from his childhood years for his movies, and for his next planned film, he's going to focus more directly on his own story – albeit in "loosely based" fashion. And Michelle Williams is in talks to star in a lead role that has echoes of his mother.

Story details are still under wraps for this one, though the director is making a rare foray into screenwriting for the project, working alongside regular collaborator Tony Kushner. It'll tell a story that features kids at various ages, including one based on Spielberg himself.

With work now complete on his take of West Side Story (due out on 10 December following pandemic delays), Spielberg has been working on his next potential directorial effort, and he's gearing up to shoot this summer for a planned 2022 release.
