While he’s been busy overseeing post-production and CG animation on Tintin, Steven Spielberg has also been keeping the world guessing about what his next film might be. Wonder no longer: he’s picked World War One drama War Horse.

The story, which is set against the backdrop of the Great War, finds an extraordinary friendship developing between a boy and a horse, who find their fates are linked as the conflict progresses.

Michael Morpurgo wrote the book, which Spielberg clicked with the minute he read it: "Its heart and its message provide a story that can be felt in every country," he tells Variety. DreamWorks nabbed the rights to the tome late last year.

With that in mind, writers Richard Curtis and Lee Hall have been hard at work adapting it into a script and Disney/DreamWorks are planning an August release next year.
