Back in the middle of last year, DreamWorks Animation announced that it would be adapting Adam Rex’s book The True Meaning Of Smekday into Happy Smekday! with Jim Parsons and Rihanna nabbing the first two lead voice roles. Now Steve Martin and Jennifer Lopez are also aboard, and the film has been retitled to the less quirky (and a little more bland) Home.

The buddy comedy, adapted by Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember, finds Martin as Captain Smek, the leader of an optimistic alien race known as the Boov. When they arrive on Earth, they decide they like the place and begin to relocate humanity, somehow convinced that we’ll be eternally grateful. Clearly, they haven’t watched Independence Day or Mars Attacks!

Among those standing against this seemingly peaceful invasion is a young girl (Rihanna) who avoids capture and must try to free her mother (Lopez) with the help of a banished member of the Boov fleet (Parsons).

Over The Hedge / Antz director Tim Johnson is calling the shots for the film, which will land in cinemas sometime in November 2014.
