When news about the latest stab at a **Texas Chainsaw **prequel, now simply called Leatherface, arrived, it was that EastEnders’ Sam Strike was being considered for the title role. There’s no confirmation on his status, but Deadline reports that Stephen Dorff is on for a key character.

Leatherface focuses on the very early days of the psychopath who will one day don the terrifying mask and swing the rumbling weapon. We meet him as a violent teen that breaks out of a mental hospital with three other inmates, kidnaps a nurse and takes her on the road trip from hell. But as they make good their escape, the men are pursued by a deranged lawman that has revenge on his mind. Dorff’s character is the dogged Texas Ranger Hal Hartman who sets out on the vengeful trail.

Seth M. Sherwood wrote the script for this one, with Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury on board to direct. As for Dorff, he’ll next shop up in comedy Sex Guaranteed and mystery thriller Oliver’s Deal.
