Hollywood split over Presidential nominees

Traditionally a Democrat town, Hollywood is hedging its bets over the runners in the current Presidential race. Some industry members, such as Tom Selleck and David Geffen, have contributed to campaigns for both Republican and Democrat candidates. And although the Democratic candidates, Al Gore and William Bradley, have garnered more campaign money from entertainment sources, a surprising number of showbiz types are supporting Republican John McCain.

McCain counts among his campaign supporters Tom Selleck, Harrison Ford, Morgan Fairchild and directors William Friedkin and Milos Forman. His autobiography, "Faith Of My Fathers", has even been optioned to be made into a movie. The Vietnam war hero is noted for his outspoken style, which has been compared to the eponymous hero of Warren Beatty's political satire Bulworth. The more traditional Tinseltown approval goes to Gore, whose supporters include Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Douglas and Barbara Streisand, and to Bradley, who finds favour with Samuel L. Jackson, Bull Murray and director Barry Levinson.
