New Line are boldly going where they've never gone before, crossing the final frontier, and releasing a 3D CGI animated film. And they've just announced the voice cast for the adventure, titled Planet 51.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson stars as astronaut Chuck Baker, who believes he's the first person to set foot on the titular astral body. However, there he finds a green civilisation straight out of the 1950s, complete with paranoia about alien invasion. 'Cept he's the alien - role reversals ahoy!

Jessica Biel, Justin Long and perennial Rock co-star Seann William Scott have also signed on, to a film directed by Javier Abad and Marcos Martinez, from a script by Joe Stillman, one of the umpteen writers on Shrek and Shrek 2. New Line bought the rights to the film, which is being produced in Madrid, last year for release next July.

So can it compete with the big gorillas of animation? We'll have to wait and see - but it's not a bad voice cast, and anything His Rockness does is worth a look in our book.
