Tremble, America, for we are coming to claim another of your superheroes! London-born Charlie Cox, still be best known for his starring role as Tristan in Stardust, is the new Matt Murdock in Marvel and Netflix’s upcoming TV take on Daredevil.

The news, which was first reported by Latino Review and since confirmed by Marvel, comes on the heels of word that show boss Drew Goddard has left the project to concentrate on his Spider-spin-off film** Sinister Six**, and will be replaced by fellow Joss Whedon veteran Steven S. DeKnight.

Cox, who has more recently spent two years playing Owen on Boardwalk Empire, is set as Murdock, the lawyer blinded at a young age in a strange accident. As some comfort to the young lad, he is left with other enhanced senses that help him compensate for his lack of sight and, with a little martial arts training, turn him into a super-powered hero fixated on vigilante justice in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen.

Daredevil’s story will run on the streaming service alongside those of Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage, before the characters’ worlds combine for planned miniseries The Defenders. The cameras should be rolling in New York this summer for a planned launch of 13 episodes next year.
