It's been a long road, getting from there to here. It's been a long time, but... Hang on, that's something else. But while it has been a long wait for an actual, official launch date of Star Trek: Discovery, marking the sci-fi franchise's return to TV screens, we now have the details. The series is set to premiere on Sunday 24 September.
That date refers to the broadcast of the first episode of the new series, which will screen on US network CBS before the second is made available in the States on the All Access streaming service immediately afterwards. Further episodes will only be shown on All Access. And while the first season episode count was upped from 13 to 15 recently, the show will pull a Walking Dead-style trick and screen in two "chapters" of eight episodes each. The second half is due to arrive in January next year.
UK viewers (and others outside the States) will be able to watch the show via Netflix within 24 hours after each episode lands in the US. And there is a plan for an after-show, though there's no word on whether that will travel across the pond.
Star Trek: Discovery's cast features the likes of Sonequa Martin-Green, Michelle Yeoh, Jason Isaacs, Rainn Wilson, Doug Jones and James Frain.
