One of the toughest battles to win supremacy of the US box office was waged in America this weekend - but in the grand tradition of such things, there can only be one winner and this time it seems to have been Steven Spielberg. Spielberg's Minority Report and Disney's new animated feature Lilo & Stitch were neck and neck all weekend, as each did their best to estimate the box office takings. In the end it was a very close-run thing. Dreamworks, the studio behind Minority Report, said they'd taken a grand total of $36.9 million to Disney's $35.8 million. But that's not the end of it. Unable to accept the figures, Disney's head honcho told the press, 'We truly believe we were No. 1... I'm confident the estimates will be corrected on Monday morning.' Not so, according to Dreamworks who said that things being so close they were happy to call it a tie.
