The much-ballyhooed first Spider-Man 3 trailer is here and, in true Spidey-style, it’s full of impressive effects, sweeping shots of our hero in action, and hints about the story’s direction. If you’re trying to stay spoiler free, avoid the next couple of paragraphs and join us at the bottom of the story.
We already know that this third outing will find Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) letting power and success go to his head – as Spider-Man becomes a hero for New York City and Pete settles into life (and possibly marriage) with Kirsten Dunst’s Mary Jane Watson. But this being Parker’s world, it can’t last… And soon there’s a triple threat out to shatter his happy times.
He learns that Flint Marko – who actually killed Uncle Ben in the original film – has escaped from prison. Oh yeah, and he’s also gained superpowers through an accident. And then there’s Harry Osborn (James Franco), still having trouble dealing with the fact that he thinks Peter killed his dad. And finally a dark and deadly alien symbiote that will first attach itself to Peter, triggering the darkness within and then find a home with love rival Eddie Brock (Topher Grace), as Venom comes to power.
