Spanish Fly

Cop comedy to be remade

In what might be a sign that it has finally exhausted every current Asian film remake possibility, New Line is turning its attention to the Spanish dark comedy Torrente.

The film focuses on Jose Lius Torrente, a comically bad police officer mired in corruption, drinking and laziness. Despite all that, he’s still a top copper.

Written, directed and starring Santiago Segura, there have already been three Torrente films and the series is the most successful comedy franchise in Spanish movie history. New Line will apparently stick with the rude humour, but has yet to decide on a writer or director.
