Kevin Spacey - currently a cert for the brass ring for his stunning performance in American Beauty, is to star in a biopic of late crooner Bobby Darin. No ordinary Sinatra pretender, Darin recorded in a huge variety of styles from blues to folk, but is condemned to be remembered for his sugary pop hits like Dream Lover and Splish Splash, despite a career that saw him go to Vegas and back, then end with a Motown contract.

In an interview on US show 60 Minutes on Sunday, Spacey said that he's have signed up for the film "by the time this program airs" Spacey secured the role after a two years of soft-soaping director Barry Levinson, who thought Spacey too old - Darin died at 37, Spacey is 40.
