Comedy pitch from Alan Yang

Sony Pictures has bought the comedy pitch, White Dad, from screenwriter Alan Yang.

Robert Simonds, a veteran comedy producer whose next movie is The Pink Panther 2, will oversee the production for Sony.

At the moment, the plot is being kept under wraps, so all we have to go on is that title, which isn’t that inspiring – mainly because it sounds like the sort of low-concept comedy so beloved of 30 Rock’s Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan). You know, the fake movies that the writers of 30 Rock clearly thought were so ridiculous that they, or movies like them, could never actually get made – movies like Who Dat Ninja, President Homeboy and our particular favourite, Honky Grandma Be Trippin’.

But Yang’s background – he’s a writer on the upcoming spin-off of The Office: An American Workplace – is encouraging, so we’ll give this one a pass until that closely-guarded plot is revealed.
