Despite boasting Danny Boyle in the director’s chair, a script by Aaron Sorkin and a compelling subject in the form of former Apple boss Steve Jobs, Sony has pulled the high-profile project into its schedule rubbish bin, putting the film into turnaround.
Yes, despite its apparent prestige nature, the studio has ditched the film even as the elements finally appeared to be coming together despite some trouble zeroing on a director and star.
Sorkin’s script, written with input from Walter Isaacson’s bestselling authorised biography of the man, focuses on three big moments in Jobs’ corporate life: the launch of the Mac; NeXT (which was introduced after he was removed from the company); and the iPod, launched after his triumphant return.
Christian Bale had flirted with the idea of playing Jobs, but after he finally passed, Michael Fassbender entered talks. Seth Rogen is also looking to make a deal and Boyle is definitely still attached, at least for now. And this is by no means the end – even now, Universal is circling, looking to snap it up. So we will likely eventually see the film, just with a different logo at its head.
