In addition to the various other franchises or movies he's working on, Simon Kinberg is one of the main players in the X-Men cinematic universe. And he's now letting slip a few details about both the upcoming Wolverine 3 and the future of mutants in general.

Talking to Collider about X-Men: Apocalypse, which he co-wrote and produced, talk turned the new Wolverine, which is likely to be Hugh Jackman's swan song in the role. Kinberg revealed that the film has already begun shooting under the auspices of director James Mangold and that "It’s a very radical, bold, different Wolverine than you’ve ever seen in any of these movies." While staying sketchy on whether talk that Patrick Stewart is playing Professor Xavier is true, he was much more forthcoming about the tone and the style of the movie. "I will agree with you that Patrick Stewart was rumored to be a part of that film. It takes place in the future, and it is an R-rated movie. It’s violent, it’s kind of like a Western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film."

Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant and Eriq Lasalle co-star in the film, which is raking aim at a March 2, 2017 release in the UK.

And that's not the only mutant-powered production in the works, as Kinberg also broached the subject of other movies to Coming Soon. "The next one is set in the 90s," he cryptically offers, though it doesn't specify if he means a main X-Men movie like Apocalypse (set in the 1980s) or New Mutants, which Josh Boone is putting together. We're likely to have to wait for another main X-Men film if Bryan Singer is directing, as he's busy gearing up to make a new 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea as his next project.

X-Men: Apocalypse is due here on May 18. Here's Singer talking about the latest trailer.
