Having spawned a multimedia empire (well, books, movies and TV at least), smiling simian Curious George last graced the big screen in 2006, in fully animated form. Universal now plans to take him live-action, with Shrek and Narnia director Andrew Adamson in talks for the job.

Assuming he locks in a deal, Adamson would co-write and direct the latest story based on the original books that have since sold more than 75 million copies and become a global behemoth that would make King Kong think twice about taking him on.

The exact details of how George will be brought to life this time have not been specified, but you've got to assume a cast of humans alongside a CG monkey. Andy Serkis is probably too busy at this point, but we're sure someone could squeeze into a performance capture suit. And will this movie tell the beginning of the end of the happy relationship between George and pal the man in the yellow hat begins to crumble, eventually finding the cheery creature leading a revolt against humanity and... Hang on, we're getting our franchises crossed now, aren't we? Still: Furious George. Admit it, you'd watch.
