“Starring and directed by Burt Reynolds” is not a phrase you hear around Hollywood these days. If he’s not careful, “Catering service provided by Burt Reynolds” might be more common. Still, it was true of 1981’s Sharky’s Machine. It’s just a shame that the same won’t be said about the remake.

Phil Joanou – who has just finished work on American football pic The Gridiron Gang with The Rock – will helm the refreshed version of the film, which sees vice copper Tom Sharky and his crack team hunting down a vicious pack of criminals. Joanou obviously impressed Warners with his pitch, and they’re hunting for a writer to retool the script to his needs.

Come on Phil – find a role for Burt. You know it makes sense. We hear he makes a fine lasagne, too.
