If you ever thought it was safe to go back into the water, you’ve not been watching enough movies. The Shallows, in which a rogue carcharodon carcharias attempts to turn Blake Lively into Blake, well, Death-ly, is the latest to demonstrate that cinematic oceans are literally teeming with deadly critters. Watch its new trailer below but, remember, sharks are our friends. Mostly.

Lively follows the Ryan Reynolds/Buried and Colin Farrell/Phonebooth template of carrying a survival tale virtually solo here. She plays a surfer who heads to a stretch of golden sand to contemplate the recent loss of her mum and start the painful process of rebuilding.

This process, she soon discovers, turns out to be less painful than being bitten by a Great White Shark – a moment wittily eluded to in the trailer via the crunch of an apple. Yee-ouch.

Stranded on a rocky outcrop far from shore, she spots a nearby buoy offering a chance of salvation. But judging by this footage, the shark has something of the Jaws 4 vibe about its relentless pursuit of human victims. Maybe it’d sat through The Age Of Adaline and is looking for payback.

The Shallows is out in August in the UK. Definitely go on summer holiday first.
