Thanks to his leading role in Marvel's Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings, Simu Liu has gotten used to appearing in toy form. That should be good preparation, we'd imagine, for playing someone sharing the screen with Barbie. Liu is the latest recruit for Barbie, which stars Margot Robbie as a character based on the long-running doll.
Quite what form this movie is taking is a mystery, especially since Little Women's Greta Gerwig is in the director's chair, and she wrote with script with Noah Baumbach. Add in the fact that the Ken of this particular story will be played by Ryan Gosling and you have the blueprint for... something? We can't imagine Robbie and Gosling in particular signing on for a basic toy-happy cash-grab, so this is something different. Maybe?
Liu's character, as with other recent hire America Ferrera, is unknown right now, but this is one we're fascinating (and a little scared) to see.
