Of the films that managed to make a profit last year, we weren't expecting that Ben Affleck-starring crime thriller The Accountant would be one to spawn a sequel. Warner Bros. clearly thinks differently, and the studio is in the midst of re-assembling the actor plus director Gavin O'Connor and other filmmakers to put together a second outing.

Writer Bill Dubuque and producers Lynette Howell Taylor and Mark Williams are all working out deals now to return for a follow-up about Affleck's Christian Wolff, a forensic accountant with a very dark side. A high-functioning autistic, he's able figure out financial mysteries and works for criminal organisations to keep their shady moneymaking out of government clutches. But when a new client puts him in danger and firmly in the crosshairs of the Treasury Department, he shows off another, more violent side...

The plot for the film also saw – spoiler alert for those who didn't watch it – Christian's brother Brax (Jon Bernthal) coming out of the woodwork and proving just as skilled. Perhaps he'll have even more to do this time around?

There's no schedule for this one yet, as all involved are only just figuring out their contracts and have yet to start working on story beats. The first person to make a gag about "they made the numbers work" will be forced to fill out tax forms for hours with only an abacus and an angry goose for help.
