His particular brand of intensity-verging-towards-violence has seen Sean Harris hired for several high-profile projects in recent years, including Prometheus and this year’s Deliver Us From Evil. Now Christopher McQuarrie clearly thinks he can bring the right sort of bad guy to life facing off against Tom Cruise, recruiting the actor for **Mission: Impossible 5.

While Deadline’s story on his casting has him negotiating and cautions that it’s not a done deal, McQuarrie appears much more bullish, welcoming Harris to the film in a Tweet this weekend.

The fifth Mission statement is already shooting, having kicked off work in Vienna recently. Cruise is naturally back as Ethan Hunt, joined once more by Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg, with Ving Rhames and Paula Patton rumoured to return (Rhames is surely a shoo-in; he’s the franchise’s supporting lucky charm). Rebecca Ferguson, Asim Ahmad, Rupert Wickham and Alec Baldwin are also all aboard for a film that is keeping its plot details locked in a laser-guarded vault for now.

Harris should prove a great nemesis for Cruise, bringing a different type of energy to the series from previous opponents. Harris will next be on our screens in ’71, due October 10, with Susanne Bier’s long-delayed Serena then set for October 24. He’ll also be in the new Macbeth and crime drama Trespass Against Us, which are both awaiting release dates.
