Tom misses his own premiere

Ever since he saved a young fan from being crushed at the London premiere of Mission Impossible, Tom Cruise has carved out a niche for himself as the perfect premiere attendee. When he and current squeeze Penelope Cruz came over for the UK premiere of Vanilla Sky last year the pair spent over an hour with the fans in Leicester Square, using the now-patented 'talk to unsuspecting fans on mobile phones' trick to whip the crowd into a total frenzy. Today we hear that Cruise has taken his premiere walkabout to the nth degree, spending so much time pressing the flesh that he missed the start of his new movie The Last Samurai. Cruise was working the crowd at the Los Angeles premiere of the film when he was interrupted by a security stooge telling him that the film was about to begin. Undeterred, Tom continued his meet-the-fans progress for another hour forcing the premiere organisers to start the film without him. Having raised the bar thus, Empire Online have been wondering where Cruise could go from here? How about shouting 'all back to mine!' next time he's in London?
