Saw VII Set For The Screen

The Saw franchise celebrates the release of its sixth instalment in October, presumably by baking a bear trap into a birthday cake and festooning it with candles made of dynamite, but today comes the news that Saw VII has already been greenlit for release and will follow, we're guessing in October 2010.

The franchise about the serial killer (or is he? Discuss) and his disciples who traps victims who are guilty of something and forces them to assess just what they're willing to do to survive, whether it's losing a limb or killing a hated enemy.

The films have had phenomenal success to date, so this latest news comes as no real shock but does signal the continuing confidence in the franchise, with studio Lionsgate not even bothering to wait for the opening weekend gross before beginning work on the next film, which will shoot in January.

David Hackl, who was a production designer on films II, III and IV and who directed Saw V, will be directing, with a script by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, who wrote Saws IV, V and VI (keep up at the back!). We're sure they'd welcome ideas for ingenious new traps, so please send in your less grotesque suggestions below...
