He may have started off as a leetle bit of a mickey take on our favourite flying hero, Superman, but that plucky rodent Mighty Mouse is now rivalling the big Kryptonian himself by appearing on a big screen near you. Starting off his routine of flying in to save the day, the big-eared rodent rocketed into our superhero consciousness way back in 1942 as a creation of Isadore Klein. The nemesis of the world's feline villains, the clever little fellow even managed to garner an Oscar nomination before his star faded in a couple of so-so TV series in the 70s and 80s. But it appears that together with his pink-befrocked sweetheart Pearl Pureheart, the bemuscled creature's time has now well and truly come as no less than action film supremo John Woo is to produce his new feature film capers in full CGI glory. No news as yet as to whether Mighty Mouse's unique operatic delivery style will be retained, but we at Empire Online will certainly be intrigued to find out whether the defender of mice and his warblings will mesh with Woo stylee long, brutal but beautifully choreographed fight sequences. All together now, "Miiiiiighty Mouse is on the waaaaay..." We're sure you remember the tune.
