If your pulse has just about returned to normal for the first time since seeing A Quiet Place earlier this year, we're sorry to say that Netflix’s latest horror-thriller is here to give you another sensory-related anxiety attack. The first trailer for Bird Box has arrived, teasing a story and set-up that looks pretty similar to John Krasinski’s brilliant monster movie, but with a claustrophobic central hook all of its own – Sandra Bullock’s Malorie and her two kids can make as much noise as they please, but if they remove their blindfolds they’ll be vulnerable to, well… whatever the hell is causing this particular apocalypse.

Based on Josh Malerman’s 2015 book, the film comes from director Susanne Bier (The Night Manager, Love Is All You Need), with an impressive supporting cast including John Malkovich, Sarah Paulson, Trevante Rhodes and Lil Rel Howery.

Despite those A Quiet Place similarities – parents protecting their kids in a dangerous post-civilisation landscape where one of your senses makes you vulnerable – Bird Box looks to be a tense treat all of its own, especially with its plot focusing on a treacherous two-day blindfolded trek through the wilderness. It’s one of those unfortunate Hollywood coincidences that this is coming out only a few months after A Quiet Place – though the comparison will likely end up pulling in extra viewers.

Either way, Bird Box looks set to become appointment viewing over Christmas after it hits Netflix on 21 December.
