It’s always heartening news when a great actor and an ace filmmaker team up, so we’re happy to bring word that Sam Rockwell has joined the cast of Andrew Dominik’s Cogan’s Trade, agreeing to star with Brad Pitt.

The pair has form, after all: Rockwell worked with Dominik (and Pitt, of course) on the director’s superb **The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford. **

Trade will tackle a slightly different – but probably no less bullet-ridden – subject, adapting George V Higgins’ comic crime novel about a mob enforcer who has to investigate the heist of a high-stakes poker game.

There’s no word on exactly what role Rockwell will be playing, but we’re frankly just pleased to see him reuniting with his Assassination mates. And given that Trade is an ensemble piece, Deadline reports that Robert Ford himself, Casey Affleck, might also be pondering a return to the fold.

And what could this mean for other Jesse James cast members? Could Garret Dillahunt score a role? Paul Schneider? Mary-Louise Parker? We’d even suggest Jeremy Renner, but we fear he’ll be busy hunting witches. There’s no word on a start date just yet, but we’re already anticipating good things from this one.
