After terrifying us all with 2014's The Babadook, writer/director Jennifer Kent is preparing to make her next film as Nightingale, a period drama that will star Sam Claflin and Aisling Franciosi.

The eclectic cast also includes Damon Herriman, Ewen Leslie Harry Greenwood, Baykali Ganambarr and Magnolia Maymuru in the story of a 21-year-old Irish convict in Tasmania in 1825. After her husband and infant child are murdered, she decides to take justice into her own hands, hiring an Aboriginal tracker to head into the wilderness, intent on revenge.

Kent has rounded up financing for the film from Bron Creative and Bruna Papandrea's Made Up Stories company. She should have the cameras rolling this year.

Claflin, last seen in Me Before You, has My Cousin Rachel due on 9 June and Journey's End in post-production, while Franciosi is currently appearing in new BBC drama The Clique.
