What would you do if you were a grizzled veteran bar owner on the wrong end of your fifth heart attack, worried that no one would be around to keep your business going.

If you’re Tom Waits in The Good Heart, you take in a young homeless bloke (Ryan Gosling) and train him up to become your successor. It’s like The Colour Of Money, only with a leather-faced expert teaching a young whelp the tricks of the trade. But in a bar. Okay, it’s exactly like The Colour Of Money.

Icelandic director Dagur Kari is making the leap to English-language movie making with this film. As for Gosling, he’ll next be seen in crime thriller Fracture with Anthony Hopkins.
