Having brought us the tempo-obsessed J.K. Simmons and browbeaten Miles Teller in Whiplash, Damien Chazelle's next film, La La Land promises to be a more warmly romantic dip into musical territory. Check out Ryan Gosling crooning and appearing alongside Emma Stone in the first trailer.

La La Land, as the title might suggest is set in Los Angeles, a place known as the fame flame to which aspiring young moths are drawn. Just two are Sebastian (Gosling), a dedicated jazz musician and Mia (Stone), an aspiring actress who are struggling to make ends meet as they pursue their dreams. They make a love connection, but can they stay strong and together in a city known for bringing more pain than joy when it comes to wannabe talented types?

With one of the film's tracks, City Of Stars already on iTunes (in the States at least, it might take a little longer to make its way across the pond) and present here, we're promised a range of musical styles as the story unfolds and with the movie certainly looks to be beautifully shot.

With John Legend, Rosemarie DeWitt, Finn Wittrock and Callie Hernandez also in the cast, La La Land will be out in the US this coming December and waltzes its way to UK screens on January 13 next year.
