There was a time (February last year) when it looked like Christian Bale and Rosamund Pike would share the screen in The Deep Blue Good-By. But then Bale got injured and dropped out, and the project sank back into limbo. They'll get their shot at co-star status now that Pike has joined Bale in Scott Cooper's Hostiles.

The reunion between the Out Of The Furnace director and his star finds is a Western that will feature Bale as a legendary American Army captain in 1892 with a burning hatred for Native Americans.

When he's ordered to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief and his family back to tribal lands in Montana from an isolated outpost in New Mexico, he's initially resistant, but agrees to the task. Along the way, the pair meets a widow (Pike) whose family was murdered on the plains, and the small, unexpected unit must band together to overcome distrust, the landscape's challenges and hostile Comanche tribes intent on making sure they don't reach their destination.

Cooper will start the cameras rolling in July, and we can expect further casting announcements. Pike will be seen opposite David Oyelowo in A United Kingdom and is also starring in World War II thriller HHhH.
