That sound you hear is a pack of zombies raising a glass (of brains) to toast the return of their master.

Yes, George A. Romero is putting his next planned film – an adaptation of Japanese horror film Solitary Isle – firmly on hold to dive back into the world of flesh-craving undead bastards.

And if the synopsis is to be believed, he’s taking a gentle sideswipe at the genre in the process. George Romero’s Diary Of The Dead will revolve around a bunch of student filmmakers heading into the woods to shoot a bloody horror. But they get more gore than they bargained for when they stumble on a group of zombies.

It’s not clear whether this latest trip to Zombietopia will fit into the canon of his other films the way Land Of The Dead did - and it begs the question of what happened to the planned sequel, but still: zombies! Romero cranks his cameras in Toronto in October.
