On June 24, mankind will face a new threat. A threat so large, so unpredictable, that there’s only one man who can save us: Roland Emmerich. Yes, Emmerich’s follow-up to his 1996 alien-busting blockbuster arrives this month, and in celebration (and because putting Jeff Goldblum on our latest cover just isn’t enough) the director is set to become this very website’s first ever guest editor.

"As a long-time friend of Empire and regular visitor to the website, I'm hugely excited about taking over the reins as editor,” Emmerich says. “If I ever get bored of filmmaking, it could be a second career!"

We’ve worked closely with Emmerich to create a whole week of brilliant content that will not only explore his own films (The Day After Tomorrow, Stargate, Universal Soldier for starters...) and major influences, but also showcase a wealth of never-before-seen images from his personal archive – and the odd web-based explosion.

The fun starts on Monday June 13, so, until then, delve into our Independence Day: Resurgence issue – available at all anti and pro-alien newsagents now – and get up to speed.
