Driver has a new man at the script wheel. Roger Avary - fresh from penning the Silent Hill adaptation about to haunt cinemas - is drafting a fresh script based on the computer game which has an undercover cop posing as a getaway driver being put through his paces during a tough heist.

We reported on he film’s early development waaaaaay back in 2004 (read that coverage here), but there’s no updated word on whether Corey Yuen will still be directing or Michael Madsen starring. What’s new aside from Avary joining the film? Rogue Pictures and Focus Features have signed a deal to distribute the film alongside Constantin Film and Impact Pictures.

"Only a handful of videogame properties mean something on their own, like Halo," Rogue boss Andrew Rona told Variety. "Game awareness is a good selling point, but we are also looking at this as being a great action movie."

Yes, but first you have to shoot and release the thing. Do get a move on!
