Well, this is going to displease some people. MTV is planning a remake of the 1975 musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show. For those who've never seen it, the bizarre cult perennial, conceived by Crystal Maze eccentric Richard O'Brien, tells of a young couple who unfortunately stumble upon the residence of the cross-dressing scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter (memorably played by Tim Curry). Since the film's success, theatrical versions have played constantly to audiences of (male) students wearing gurdles and heels, but no shame.

There has been no indication of who might direct or star, but the new production will use the screenplay written by Richard O'Brien and Jim Sharman, who directed the original.

Making this film seems a curious choice. Rocky Horror couldn't be much more 1970s if it were wearing a safari suit and watching Charlie's Angels. Do modern audiences want to see this updated or is the tackiness of the period that produced it part of the charm?
