This year's BAFTA Awards, in keeping with many ceremonies these past months, was primarily a virtual affair. Unlike many others, the awards have been split across more than one night. Saturday, it was the turn, primarily, of the craft categories, with Rocks, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and Sound Of Metal among the winners.
The excellent Rocks took home the casting award for Lucy Pardee, who helped gather that impressive ensemble. Ma Rainey's team of Matiki Anoff, Larry M. Cherry, Sergio Lopez-Rivera and Mia scored the Makeup & Hair trophy, while costume designer Ann Roth was triumphant in her own category.
Mank's Donald Graham Burt and Jan Pascale were the Production Design winners, with Tenet's Scott Fisher, Andrew Jackson and Andrew Lockley as the Special Visual Effects victors. Fittingly, Sound Of Metal's Jaime Baksht, Nicolas Becker, Phillip Bladh, Carlos Cortés and Michelle Couttolenc took Sound.
As for the Short Film categories, Farah Nabulsi's The Present scored British Short Film, while Mole Hill and Laura Duncalf's The Owl And The Pussycat was awarded Best British Short Animation.
Finally, actor, writer, director and producer Noel Clarke was awarded the Outstanding Contribution To Cinema award, a well-deserved recognition of his work in films.
The main BAFTA categories will be presented tomorrow, Sunday 11 April.
