LaBeouf considering Transformers

Shia LaBeouf, who has launched his career playing geeky sidekicks in Constantine and I, Robot, will tackle a whole new technological challenge.

He’s in negotiations to star in Michael Bay’s Transformers film, based on the classic Hasbro toy line that every kid owned in the ‘80s. LaBeouf will play Spike Witwicky, an 18-year-old looking to buy his first set of wheels. Little does he realise that the vehicle he drives off in is actually an Autobot, one of the giant robots who can transform into cars, guns, trucks and most other technological items.

If he signs, he’ll become wrapped up in the endless struggle between the Autobots – who believe that life should be protected – and The Decepticons, who prefer a survival of the fittest ideal and are out for world domination.

Catwoman’s John Rogers has written the first draft of the script, but the current version is by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, who wrote Mission: Impossible 3 and last worked with Bay on The Island.
