Also in talks is a certain J.J. Abrams, but given that he’s going to be busy directing Star Wars Episode VII, the man who called the shots on Star Trek and** Into Darkness** is only acting as producer for the third voyage of Kirk and co.
Of course, Orci and Kurtzman returning doesn’t rule out other writers being brought in to collaborate.Surprisingly, however, we shouldn't expect Into Darkness’ Damon Lindelof to be on the list since, according to the Hollywood Reporter, he’s not likely to return. Paramount wants the Enterprise flying again as soon as it can to keep the franchise going, especially since** Star Trek** will turn 50 in 2016 - that's also a realistic-looking deadline for the third film's release date.
Orci and Kurtzman have plenty to keep them busy besides thinking up new ways to have Kirk and Spock squabble. They oversee several TV shows via their Kurtzman Orci Paper Products company including Hawaii Five-0, and the incoming Sleepy Hollow. They’ve also contributed drafts to Edge Of Tomorrow and** The Amazing Spider-Man 2** and are producing Ender’s Game, which is out on October 25.
The question of who'll direct the third Star Trek movie remains, of course, wide open. So who would you like to see? Abrams somehow pulling double duty? A franchise veteran stepping up? Or a complete newcomer beaming aboard?
