Robert Luketic Finds Brilliant

After bringing the world the likes of Killers, The Ugly Truth and Monster-In-Law, it looks like director Robert Luketic is finally itching to break out of the dodgy romantic comedy rut he’s found himself in and is switching genres to tackle heist thriller Brilliant.

Written by Gillian Gorfil and Elizabeth Shorten, the plot follows a small-time criminal who is somehow recruited to join an experienced team of jewel thieves on a diamond heist.

That’s about it for the info on the movie – there’s no start date or distributor set up yet and no casting to announce, because the producers at Lakeshore Entertainment were looking to lock down a director and have them start to look for actors. We’re just crossing our fingers that Katherine Heigl – who (dis)graced the screen for Luketic's last two projects – stays away from this one.

Besides, Luketic did a decent job with 21, so we’re interested to see what he can do when loosed from the shackles of neurotic singletons finding unlikely partners or Ashton Kutcher running around with a gun.
