Rob Cohen Tracks Down Crash Bandits

Though we thought directing last year’s slightly shonky Alex Cross might have seen him condemned to director jail for a while, Rob Cohen is still lining up future jobs. He’s now attached to make Crash Bandits for Nu Image/Millennium.

No, it’s not an off-brand rip-off film based on the Crash Bandicoot console game, it’s actually the story of two rival treasure hunters who specialise in salvaging old plane wrecks. When they get wind of the ultimate prize lurking in the Amazon, the race is on.

It all sounds a little bit like Sahara to us, though Cohen does at least know his way around an action sequence. Crash Bandits has been sitting in development for a while now, originally penned by Michael Stokes and at one time considered as a John McTiernan vehicle with Hayden Christensen starring. Now Cohen will re-write the script and start looking for a new cast.

Cohen’s got other projects bubbling away, including the long-gestating new xXx film, horror remake The Monster Squad, a film about Sir Isaac Newton (probably fewer guns in that one) and Korean War drama 1950.
