Ridley Scott's back on the historical beat, and we now have both the first image of his latest, Napoleon and word that it'll arrive in cinemas before it lands on Apple TV+.

Directed by Scott from a screenplay by David Scarpa, the film stars Joaquin Phoenix as the French emperor and military leader. We're promised a dive into Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine (Vanessa Kirby).

The film reportedly captures Napoleon’s famous battles, relentless ambition and astounding strategic mind as an extraordinary military leader and war visionary. Which all sounds great, but it'll have to compete with Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure in terms of portraying Napoleon.

Thanks to a partnership with Sony, the film will land in cinemas worldwide on 22 November, before it later streams on Apple TV+.
