Ridley Scott is the man who launched the Alien franchise, and he's returning to it later this year with Alien: Covenant. Empire caught up with him this week in Los Angeles and couldn't resist asking the director about working with the legendary John Hurt, a part of the cast for the original Alien and a key component in one of the most iconic moments in sci-fi horror history.

Hurt, of course, died a couple of weeks ago, and Scott was only too happy to talk about the unlikely circumstances in which the actor was cast as Kane, and his overall working relationship with the man. There's a lot of love there.

We'll have more from Scott and some of his Alien: Covenant cast closer to the film's release date, but we wanted to share this story as an extra tribute to the late John Hurt. Alien: Covenant, meanwhile, will arrive on 19 May.
