Continuing the beautiful friendship that began with The Social Network and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Trent Reznor has just revealed that he and Atticus Ross will be reteaming with director David Fincher on the forthcoming **Gone Girl. Reznor broke the news on Twitter last night, as an aside to the announcement of a new Nine Inch Nails EP. Monsieur, you are spoiling us!

The Social Network's Oscar, and Golden Globes for both that and Dragon Tattoo, might have indicated a fulfilling new career path for Reznor, but this is the first soundtrack we've heard from him since the latter. There was a brief moment where he looked like he might collaborate with Timur Bekmambetov on Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, but it soon passed. There have been various short film projects since, but in terms of features he still seems solely interested in working for Fincher.

Ross, meanwhile, has contributed scores to the Mexican anthology movie Days Of Grace, Bill Pohlad's forthcoming Love And Mercy, and Albert Hughes' Book Of Eli and Broken City. But he's also found time for plenty of non-movie collaborations with other musical artists, and remains an integral part of the modern Nine Inch Nails, acting as producer, programmer and engineer on last year's Hesitation Marks album.

Having industrialised Grieg for The Social Network and sculpted chilly soundscapes (and a blistering Karen O Led Zep cover) for Dragon Tattoo, we can currently only imagine the racket in store for Reznor and Ross' third Fincher. The plot they'll be dealing with this time - adapted by Gillian Flynn from her own book - finds Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck as a seemingly happy married couple... until Pike vanishes and the suspicion for her disappearance and potential murder falls on Affleck.

Gone Girl is currently slated for UK release on October 3.
