There are changes afoot to the third Resident Evil film.

The zombie-slaying second sequel, which was to have been called Resident Evil: Afterlife is now lumbering under the moniker Resident Evil: Extinction.

Russell Mulcahy (yes, he of Highlander II directing infamy) has now been hired to direct, while Paul WS Anderson will definitely once again write. But while Milla Jovovich is confirmed as starring again, there’s no word on whether the planned vision of a post-apocalyptic world overrun with mutant zomboids will stay the same, or if the mooted preparations for a fourth film – a switch of the action to Japan – will still happen.
