She’s been the executive producer of one of her films before (Miss Potter, just in case you were really wondering), but it appears that Renee Zellweger is pushing herself to develop roles, nabbing the rights to Brantly Martin’s novel Pillage.

Martin is a former New York nightlight club entrepreneur who penned a tale of four best friends living in Manhattan who decide that what they really need to spice up their monotonous lives is a hunt for the perfect party in the city’s bustling entertainment scene. Talk about “write what you know"…

Zellweger has the rights to the book, and John Krokidas (who is busy developing beat poet murder movie Kill Your Darlings with Chris Evans lined up as Jack Kerouac) has already written the script, with the plan being for him to direct it early next year.

It’s been a slow time recently for Zellweger, with the likes of New In Town, My One And Only and Case 39 failing to generate much heat at the box office. She’ll be hoping for bigger things from comedy drama **My Own Love Song **and is more than likely to be ready for another **Bridget Jones **instalment, should that actually happen within the next couple of years.
