Female-based revenge thriller

Ric Roman Waugh has set up the female-driven revenge thriller, Rubicon, over at Relativity Media, with a view to directing.

Waugh, one of the most renowned stuntmen in the business with bruises earned from the sets of Total Recall, True Romance and Gone In Sixty Seconds, turned to full-time directing a couple of years ago with the instantly forgettable, straight-to-DVD thriller, Felon.

Let’s hope Rubicon shows some improvement.

Little is known about the plot of Rubicon, which Waugh co-wrote with Michael A. Lerner, other than that it’s set in Mexico. But the Rubicon is, of course, a river in North Italy, which Julius Caesar crossed in 49 b.c. during a military campaign. The river represented a boundary between the Roman province of Cisalpine Gaul and the rest of Italy, and by crossing it Caesar made military conflict between the two inevitable.

To this day, the phrase ‘crossing the Rubicon’ refers to a decision that takes someone past a point of no return. It’ll be interesting to see what that specifically refers to in Waugh’s film.

Rubicon will be produced by Chuck Roven and Ryan Kavanaugh.
