Who Rebooted Roger Rabbit?

This is definitely one to file under "wild speculation", but MTV talked to Robert Zemeckis recently about bringing Roger Rabbit back to the big screen, and the director's apparently considering the idea.

“I’ll tell you what is buzzing around in my head now that we have the ability—the digital tools, performance capture—I’m starting to think about ‘Roger Rabbit,’” he told the channel.

Wait, whaaaa? Digital? Roger Rabbit? We're not sure we're in love with this concept. Surely the whole point is the hand-drawn animation mixed with the live-action?

But then it shouldn't be a surprise: Zemeckis has been working with motion capture solidly since The Polar Express in 2004, and doesn't show any signs of going back to traditional directing. The question here is whether they'll combine mo-cap performances with live action to preserve something of the original film - but colour us unconvinced for now...
