TV sitcom Fresh Off The Boat might not yet be at the stage where it spawns its own movie, but several people involved with the show are now working on an untitled romantic comedy. Star Randall Park and writer/actress Ali Wong will star.
Nahnatchka Khan who runs the show as executive producer (and has directed a few episodes), will call the shots for this new film. Netflix is backing the movie, which will find Park and Wong as former childhood sweethearts, who have been estranged for 15 years since a falling out.
They reconnect as adults when Sasha (Wong), a celebrity chef preparing to open a restaurant in San Francisco, runs into Marcus (Park) and struggling musician who lives at home and works for his dad. And they also realise that the old sparks are still there...
Khan should have the cameras rolling this May in Vancouver and San Francisco. In addition to her duties on Fresh, Wong acts in fellow sitcom American Housewife. Park, meanwhile, is part of Ant-Man And The Wasp, due on 3 August.
