Ramon Rodriguez Signs On For Pelham 123

Although the IMDb – good ol’ trusty source of info that it is – claims that Tony Scott’s remake of The Taking Of Pelham 123 is currently in post-production, we’re going to guess that it’s still filming, as a new cast member was announced today.

Ramon Rodriguez has joined the cast of the thriller, which sees Denzel Washington’s MTA train dispatcher try to stop criminal mastermind John Travolta from pulling off a successful hijacking of a New York subway train.

Rodriguez will play a friend of Washington’s, who gets caught up in the hijacking. It marks a heck of a month for the actor, who has also been cast as Shia LaBeouf’s room-mate in Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen (the role that Jonah Hill had been linked to and – if you believe the rumours – turned down after reading the script).

We’re still not convinced that a remake of Pelham 123 was entirely necessary, but it’s got a Grade-A cast and Scott the Younger is having enormous fun behind the camera at the moment (even if that doesn’t always transfer to his audience). This is being positioned as a summer movie for next year, so clearly Columbia Pictures are very confident.
