Looking to gain her third producing credit, Rachel Weisz has locked eyes on Disobedience, an adaptation of Naomi Alderman’s 2006 novel. Weisz will also star in the project for director Sebastián Lelio, marking the Chilean’s first English-language film.

Alderman’s book tells the tale of a woman returning to her Orthodox Jewish home on the death of her father. When revisiting an old romance with her best friend (who conveniently now happens to be married to her cousin…), the young woman’s visit causes a rift in the tight-knit community. It’s not yet known which role Weisz will play, but this certainly sounds heavy on drama.

Weisz will soon be seen in Derek Cianfrance’s The Light Between Oceans, with James Marsh’s The Mercy and a reunion with The Lobster’s Yorgos Lanthimos also on her slate.
