Sir David Puttnam, producer of Oscar winner Chariots of Fire, is to join the House of Lords as a working peer. PM Tony Blair will announce the appointment in his first honours list this week. Puttnam recently joined Labour's taskforce in order to champion excellence in "creative industries" and has been appointed to advise on raising standards in schools. How about sacking all the teachers?
